Paul Westphal-esque run and gun to the end will get you blown out fast you’ve been warned! Players now auto rotate to provide help side d, and there’s finally loose ball deflections and accurate possession decisions by referees. Gone are the cheese pick-and-rolls, where computer AI exploits its own counter AI for wide open give-and-go’s en masse. This is a truly gorgeous presentation on the PS5, and dramatically upgraded from the science experiment feel of 2K21. Having multiplayer mics integrated into the DualSense is great.
Audio is likewise stellar, with real-life public-address announcers for each stadium (making immersion incredible!), great interview segments, best soundtrack to date, enhanced commentary, and no more annoying ambient music overload. Also love the wonderful lighting effects, jersey textures, starting lineup intro’s (and accompanying fans holding lights), clearer in game-menus, massively improved halftime show, also amazing player models.
No more blockiness or irritating glitches…and the dynamic sweat system is so cool. Visually, the game presents so much more consistently than 2K21. Let’s start with the good stuff, and there are oodles of it. Meaning, unless you’re in on the Anniversary Edition and/or willing to invest heavily in virtual currency…it’s gonna’ be a bumpy ride in key modes.
2K22 improves on literally every aspect of 2K21, but strangely defaults to virtual currency to truly maximize the game.
NBA 2K22 PS4 REVIEW UPGRADE
An arguable visual upgrade from last gen at best, it offered little elsewhere over PS4 brethren beyond quicker load times and improved textures. Overall, though, the gameplay is a noticeable improvement.The sad irony of NBA 2K22 (2K22) is that it now blatantly obvious how a possibly great game over-reliant on micro-transactions to achieve its true potential.įor the PS5 player, 2K21 was decent…but flawed. The defense system has also seen a revamp through more natural rim protection and overall more balanced blocking techniques, even though taller player characters still have more of an unfair advantage. Regardless, the offense feels great this time around. The latest shot meter is not as technical as a result, but I feel a consequence of that is the ease of getting successful shots from the sideline.
NBA 2K22 PS4 REVIEW PRO
It generally feels a lot more responsive, with the addition of new moves and the scrapping of last year’s Pro Stick Aiming. The gameplay is where NBA 2K22 shines, noticeably fixing the janky flow of its predecessor and presenting players with dynamic on-court gameplay. Not much to talk about it gives you what you expect but with updated stats and figures that fit with the current state of real-world NBA. The general manager and league modes are pretty much the same and remain quest robust simulation machines. Instead, you can simply just access it via ‘Play Now,’ along with the fun ‘Blacktop’ mode, which is a mode set in a smaller court. The Shoe Lab Current/Last-gen Still Holds upīesides the City, the other significant difference in last-gen is the lack of the M圜areer Women’s NBA. Either way, it’s what you’ve come to expect-gain fans, talk to the press with multi-choice dialogue, and keep consistent in seasons to get to the top.
The cutscenes are more abundant this time, but they are unskippable, and sometimes a nasty bug occurs where everything looks blurry. While the story feels like a step down from the predecessor’s, which included a memorable performance from the late and great Michael K Williams, it still has decent cutscenes and voice acting. This year’s M圜areer has you play as a player-made social media personality who decides to get into college basketball and soon play for the big leagues. However, its reliance on microtransactions, sometimes glitchy court animations, inferior story, and samey graphics as last-gen NBA 2K21 somewhat let it down. NBA 2K22 does some admirable things on PS4, offering a M圜areer Neighborhood exclusive to current-gen and boasting decently refined gameplay that improves upon the stiffer momentum of the predecessor.
